Coconut plucking in the Fourth Estate

The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) seems to be quite preoccupied with Goa government's pension and laptop scheme. But then why shouldn’t they be.
Laptops tend to suit us lapdogs well.
But it was still a bit shocking, when discussions at the annual GUJ GBM on Saturday, mostly veered around the government's "lopsided" and "insipid" pension scheme and not much else.

Every dog has his day. But most journos are such dogged watchdogs, that we seem to want our day, today, the day after and forever after that. Some of us have even wrested subsidised plots from the government to build their kennels on. The state’s leash continues to hang slack from their necks.

Perhaps... its just about time that GUJ should change its nomenclature from Goa Union of Journalists to Goa Union of Government Journalists (GUGJ).

Hey, btw it was expected that Suhasini Prabhugoankar would win the top post at the GUJ election this time around. Suhasini's absence though, at the elections brought back memories of late Umesh Mahambre’s alleged kidnapping drama last year.

It was a coincidence that despite her absence, Suhasini won, just as Umesh got elected unopposed in his absence, last year. Coming back to Suhasini's election, I just can't help noting that the voting pattern at GUJ election takes place along the communal lines.

Where then were the Pinto's, Rosario's, Pereira's, Shaikh's etc?

May be I am wrong. May be my mind has gone wonky.

Wasn't Ashley elected GUJ president twice? Ah yes! But its said that he had to slog it out so much that he even had to stop dropping by Café Prakash for a while.

Anyway, better luck for Jamal next time. And he better start framing his manifesto and draw up a workable hijacking plan!! He would do well to contact the NSUI (National Students Union of India) or the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) for a kidnapping blue print. Or maybe he could hire Santoba Dessai as a consultant.
