GOMANTAK TIMES INDULGES IN 'ATISH'BAAZI*

Did any of you guys pick this faux pas up? A reader sent in this scanned image a few days back.
These kind of things happen when the night shift just drags and drags on… There’s no relief in sight. All you are thinking of is getting into bed. And there’s the scary prospect of a cold ride home…
But Gomantak Times allowed a small official dispatch to slip its way into one of its late November editions. The only real issue we have with it is that this was a page 1 lead, if we think right? One sees such goof ups in the local pages or some of those inside pages which you cursorily glance through. Wonder how this one happened?
Ashley boy, you and your chief subs ought to keep your eyes open man… or else try some of that same urine therapy bit, you guys peddled to your readers… and hope it works.

*Atishbaazi = fire works display

Thank god glad to know that even Gomantak Times commits blunders.Reading the blog i had the impression that only Herald and NT does most of the blunders.

Kind Attn Penpricks:
Please do a follow up on the story http://penpricks.blogspot.com/2007/12/penpricks-impact-voice-drifts-into.html

Send Derek an e-mail and ask for a response. It doesn't take Derek that long to get a response from the authorities in Sakal. We aren't living in the days of smoke signal & pigeon communication anymore!!!

hi there anonymous 1,
The blunder that pp has exposed of GT is rare of its kind.
Compared to the bloomers that the other two `tall' newspapers commit, this is just lilluputian error.
I suppose among the three english dailies in Goa, GT is the best in terms of quality and style of writting.
Take a look at the Herald. Its the most communal news organisation in Goa.
It caters mostly to the Catholic population of Salcete.
The display Herald gives to Margao stories (read gossip) exposes it through and through.
Take a look at the babes in the woods channel of Herald (HCN). What does it have for the majority community?
It has only tiatrs, tiatrs and those damned tiatrs. (We have nothing against tiatrs. But put somthing else too. May be some entertainment from phillipines).
HCN is a classic case of communalism virus being spread through the media.
You dont need a Sherlock Holmes to decipher that out. Only, no one has said it, before.
I suppose it has escaped even daring PP's eyes.

Gomantak Times has gone in for a complete spin with the new Editor.Earlier these types of mistakes were visible in stories written by Gomantak Times staffers. Now the desk in Gomantak Times have gone one step ahead and are fiddling with stories sourced from Agencies.

And what about the 'Newspaper(or toilet paper?) You Can Trust(or discard?)'. Where the likes of Sinha bend overbackwards to please Goa's saviour(?)the protector of M......s Srinivas Dempo? Where only spineless journos can survive(or prosper), where utter garbage is sold in the name of news.Speak about that anonymous.

Common dear guys

Every man makes mistakes. The present post writes about the last para goof up.

I agree with Anonymous 4.

What do one call about Herald, Mistake or computer error. From Plagiarising to Advetorials to Birthday supplements etc. etc. etc.

What can one say about Navhind Times : From Arun Sinha to Vaman Naik. And lastly avoiding the mining story on SC setting aside mining leases and licences...

The GT team needs a pat on their back.

I think it is high time that Penpricks change its name to Heraldpricks. Because most of the time i think the fellows who have either been kicked out or did not fit into the herald system are now raising issues on media morality through this blog.

This blog is definitely one sided.

Hi, I am surprised you suggest HCN is exclusively for Catholics. There's a Marathi news bulletin.
In fact, GOA NEWS has attached a Santa Claus to it's logo.
Penpricks did a story some time back where a girl had to quit in disgust, when a pervert at HCN asked her to do a PTC(Piece To Camera),in indecent clothes. Is that 'catholic' conduct?

Come this April some Brazilians are expected to participate in a non-catholic event called carnival. You can expect their women to be dressed in a thong, topless. We will have to wait and see which channels telecast this rape & molestation inciting event live.
A talk is given by the Ravi Shankar daily in the mornings on HCN, catered for Hindu bretheren.

You could contact Mr. Suresh Pilarnekar (one of the candidates in Santa Cruz constituency). He can guide you, if you are interested in 'Art of Living'.

In my comment I have taken the liberty of assuming you mean Hindu when you say 'Majority'. It can also mean:-
1. Financially impoverished 'Majority'.

2. Non elected 'Majority'

3. Idealogical 'Majority'.

4. Non merit list 'Majority'

5. Non Salcete 'Majority'.

6. If one starts his own religion/way-of-life, then he is unlikely to be in 'Majority'.

7. If one obtains leaked exam papers then, the rest have to be in 'Majority' to justify the act.

8. Bus travelling 'Majority'.

9. 'Majority' not owning a Cell phone.

10. 2 of every 3 illiterates reside in India, that's 'Majority'.

11. A 'Majority' of 49 out of every 50, in India, don't have access to a computer.

BTW 57% of the tele viewership in Goa, is the terrestrial Doordarshan!!!!

Anonymous 6 made a passionate plea in support of Gomantak Times. Well i would have agreed with Anonymous 6 during the tenure of previous editor With the present editor the paper is definitely a toilet paper. I remember there used to good stories in Gomantak Times but now i believe that the prophecy of Pankaj Pawar that the paper may be closed soon is coming true.
