INTRODUCING.... THE WILD FLOWER OF CEBU

Hey, do these fellas in the Herald know that they have a celebrity in their midst? Angela Calina, who a part of the latest lot of Filipino's to hit Herald is something of a celeb back in her own country. Angela, was one of the reasons why Herald owner Raul was attracted to the Philippines in the first place and then got stuck around there for the last few years. (BTW Raul's back a couple of days ago).
Angela was a part of a Pinoy Big Brother show (remember we had our own indigenous variety in India?) and has quite a fan following. She is also an anchor and some sort of a singer out there. Unfortunately Angela was the first celeb to exit from the Big Brother show. In fact, her fans call her the 'Wild flower of Cebu'. Cebu's the town she hails from. Read more about it here.
Hey there's more.
Turns out that things are not working well for Raul's Filipino lot. Unconfirmed reports have it that Raul is pissed off with them due to personal reasons. Chances are that they may be heading back to their country by the end of April.

Hi Penpricks,

The picture you guys have uploaded does not represent the real Angela Calina at all. The real Angela Calina is a slant-eyed chirpy Filipino and does not bare her assets as your Mexican-American pinup model does. A Google search will reveal that Calina is a talk show host in her 30s and has a daughter by the name of Aira. Does anyone have an idea whether Raul intends to adopt her? There ought to be an HCN debate on this and how Raul with this stammering dic(tion) succeeded in wooing this damsel to his sty.

Full marks to the man who has won the heart of a beautiful lady. That's his personal life methinks and should not bitched about in public. However if the results of his falling blindly in love can lead to an eye-opener for the colateral damage caused to the Herald group by the Fillos, then one welcomes constructive critism.

I say, Bat swinging, Angry Cuncolkar in action. He sometimes targets the right people.

Let me observe HCN (whenever it is on air that is), then I will tell you.

Herald MD Raul Fernandes recently celebrated his birthday at his Dona Paula cove. Apparently the birthday was also some kind of a veiled sendoff to the bevy of Filipino ladies he had sourced to run his fledgling channel. The Filipinos too are not keen on staying either. There are also rumours that the MD has learnt that his Filipino lady love has been hobnobbing with the son of one of the owners of Corina bar and restaurant in Panjim. And Raul is pretty upset.
Raul was also conferring with his lackeys on the future strategy of the newspaper vis a vis the imminent entry of ToI. Among those who literally kissed his feet were Vinayak Pai Bir, N Manjunath, Joel Afonso, Sergio Caldeira, Francis Ribeiro and Melvyn Mesquita. Those who were merely present for courtesy's sake were Ashwin Tombat, Vijay D'Souza and Bindiya Chari and some HCN employees. We are trying to find out if the personnel manager of Herald, Vijay Gaonkar who is conspicuous by his absence in the office was also present for the birthday bash. But we can bet that Gaonkar being a principled gentleman would kick Raul's butt rather than kiss it.

15 days to go tic...toc...tic...toc, TOI is coming to town. With a Rs. 300 pa. subscription + a travel bag for free!
Long live unsustainable, predatory princing!

7 days and Penpricks celebrates its first birth anniversary. 6 months ago you claimed that you had just learnt to take your first steps. How are you gonna stand as independent journos, come May 1, 08?

You have just 15 days to learn to swim or else you will be swept by the TOI Tsaunami. The TOI dingy will be the only craft afloat (will it?).

So what's your survival stratergy?

HCN has launched a series titled "Family Matters". Hosted by Ruchika Davar, her guests present the most whacky marital problems. I for one have never heared of a couple that is "Compatible". Has any of you? "Love" is not "Chemistry". Chemistry can and often does blow up!
One has to take action (do it) , make an effort to love the spouse.

Ruchika's show is as shallow as that of Barkha Dutt and Oprah Winfrey.

dear pricks

its funny how you guys keep picking on filipinos. after all they did help set up HCN whatever and however it looks content or otherwise. raul has tried in his own way to start the concept of a 24 hrs news channel and hasnt got loads of expendable moolah like national channels to get goans the perfect tv set up. so, guys try giving bouquets as well.

however, what you all should also know is that there are these bunch of joker goan cameramens running the show there as per their needs. some of them even use the HCN cams for shooting weddings its known....hushhhhhhhhhhh. heard they are desperately looking t recruit cameramen.
so, a ruchika davar can only do so much also. have you seen her fortune cookie episodes, does she cook up things heheheheheheheh
