SEVERAL VERNACULAR JOURNOS ORPHANED, AS PALE MLA GURUDAS GAWAS DIES

The vernacular journalistic troika of Sanjiv Verenkar,
Sadguru Patil, Mahadev Khandekar and some other
sidekicks have lost a benefactor with the demise of Pale
MLA Gurudas Gawas. As journalists who knew him from head to toe and were
familiar with his billet and even the colour of his wallet,
they will really miss him. Gawas died at Breach Candy hospital from a long suffering heart ailement. His rise as a young MLA in
Goa's politics, coincided with the rise of the fortunes of a few in the vernacular media, essentially the Marathi section. Known for his amiability and a forever-there smile, Gawas was always there for his vercaular journo friends whenever their palms itched. Following his election win, Gawas treated a few journos to a trip to Delhi and shopping sprees on the house. Pale is a constituency where vernacular newspapers rule the roost and his pet vernacular journos had been carrying out an image building exercise on behalf of the deceased MLA for the several years now. His death will come as a rude shock to some of these vernaular journos, for the immense loss it has caused them and the sudden realisation of unpaid motor-vehicle installments.

Add to that names like P G(Sunaparant) and the big shark A R B (TNT) to make the list look more complete.

Small wonder then there is a swagger in the walk, talk (and what not) of these five journos. With S P in a car leading the pack of (journos or wolves?), there has been a sudden rise in their fortunes. Just watch their dress sense, the expensive watch (worn by S V) and the way all these five operate.

It only lends credence to this Post. Congrats Penpricks, let's have some more of these. There is more on the vernaular journo beat.

Read page 1 (lead story) of Marathi Gomantak(dated 5 June). It appears as though S P has lost one of his own kin. How shameless can this scribe get? And why can't Sanjay Dhavlikar show S P his place?

Congrats Pen Pricks for giving the true facts. Is it true that SP bought a bungalow at Marcela? Can Pen Princks investigate this.

Big shark A R B is like a parasite when it comes to money. He must have performed number of fake operations and surgeries on his wife, children and himself to get money. Being TNT his soft targets are politicians. He needs a solid bamboo.

The Maratha lobby in Sakal group is strong enough to thwart any of Dhavlikar's attmepts to cut SP to size. This, despite the strong presence of the Brahmin caucus in Sakal(Sanjay Dhavlikar, Anand Agashe, Dhananjay Sardeshpande and Dileep Padgaonkar).
SP, even though he claims to be a Saraswat Brahmin, is yet to gain acceptability in the Brahminical set-up of Sakal. And the Maratha lobby at Sakal backs SP to the hilt as it considers him to be their representative.

Moreover, Dhavlikar is

Your comment exposes a section of journalists for what they actually are. And if SP has indeed purchased a bungalow, it becomes all the more important for Sanjay Dhavlikar to shift him to the Desk at Gomantak. But, will Sanjay do that?

Penpricks, here is a Hindi proverb which fits the bill for SP, SV, PG, ARB and MK(Paanch Pandavas?)

Maal Hai to Taal hai
Warna kutte ka haal hai
(Rough translation: Money makes the world go round, and round, and round, and round ........)

Well many stories of GT are translated from Gomantak. Please do not attack SD otherwise Chief Reporter Hegde will go out of his job as translator and Ashley will be jobless along with Derrick Alemeida

I totally disagree with you. Translating stories from their own newspaper in nothing wrong. While I was sitting in Cafe Prakash and reading The Navhind Times on Monday, my Hindu friend told me that the lead story `Ration cards to be computerised' was translated from their Marathi Navprabha which carried the same story on Sunday, 08 June. Again on Tuesday my same friend telephoned me and told that the story by TOI on `Another IRB for state likely" was translated from Gomantak Marathi which carried the same on Monday, 09 June.
