Brand politician
One has heard of film stars and cricket celebrities faces staring at you from various products and consumer durables. And this was all dues to the marketing efforts of various companies and was called brand endorsement. But now a new trend is emerging which is shocking Corporate India. Yes, while Munnabhai may have rewoken the Gandhi fevour, India’s politicians are finding their face splashed on a new surface – T-shirts and on biscuit packets.
While posters are passé, the latest way to market a politician is via a T-shirt and these T-shirts come with a message. After a poster which had Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi sitting atop a horse on the battlefield with sudarshan chakra in hand, Modi is replacing Lord Krishna once more, this time on Janmashtami, on the t-shirts of govindas (krishna devotees), in Gujarat.
While the Gujarat Chief Minister’s smile has already made it to health kits and biscuit packets ahead of the elections due later this year. And he is not the only one. Earlier it was Vasante Raje who was depicted as a goddess and two years ago it was Jayalalitha. Will it work – only the market can tell?
