RAJAN NARAYAN IS DEAD... LONG LIVE SUJOY GUPTA -- MAY THE AGE OF JOURNALISTIC PIMPING NEVER CEDE
In many ways, it resembled the passing of a baton.
Rajan Narayan's journalism had yellowed so much, that it could not rot any further. Even putrification has its limits, you see.
Once you are over and done with vanity journalism, blackmail, extortion, you cannot go much further. You then end up refining your techniques. For example, where earlier you would have bulldozed some dumb fart of a politician into getting you a flat surreptitiously, now you coax the builder lobby and the government to gift you one publicly.
So Rajan had reached a somewhat of a stagnation point.
But a metamorphosis was around the corner.
Sujoy Gupta walked into the Gomantak Times.
Sujoy turned around the GT, much in the same way Rajan handled Herald in his early days. An energetic layout and smart writing really made the edition look smarter than the rest of the pack.
But unlike Rajan, Sujoy's spots started showing much sooner. We'll come to that later. We'll first talk about what this particular post is about.
As you guys will have known Sujoy has joined Prudent media as a consulting editor. What you guys may not know that Sujoy, the man who claims to 'bleed for Goa' has been handling a very strange brief the last few days.
Our assessment is that Sujoy is the mining lobby's henchman in Goa. He has usurped and combined the roles played in the past by the editors of Navhind Times, Sunaparant, Rashtramat, Gomantak all rolled into one.
For some days now Sujoy has been peddling mischievous stories to newspapers across the board. Instance one... Remember the Advalpal anti-mining agitation story? We know Sujoy has been passing the word around that the mining lobby had bought off some of the agitators heading the agitation and made them file affidavits which show that the agitators have mellowed their stance, effectively choking off the agitation.
The line he has been asking journos whom he has known is to pitch the story, is to show agitation's back has been broken.
For someone who knows how to make people read 10 bucks on a five rupee note, how could Sujoy miss out on the slant, that it is the mining firms who have actually bought over the activists. Isn't that the real story?
The last straw (we are sure there are pretty more to come though) is this Naxal story Sujoy has been trying to peddle.
Let us show you the drawnigboard first guys.
We'll try and explain to you, why we think this 'Naxalism' story which is out in the newspapers today needs to be looked at very carefully.
The opposition leader advises the government about a law and order issue. Parrikar tells the police at the ad hoc committee hearing, that naxals are active in anti-mining agitations. He asks them to act. The government admits there is a problem and promises to look into it.
There is no scope for dissent or questions here, here is there. This is the way, a system colludes to squelch dissent. Suddenly anti-mining agitations have been given a naxal colour by the same system (police politicians and a section of the media) which feeds off mine-owners.
The only bunch who can spot this con and put it out in the public domain are journos... This is where Sujoy comes in. Sujoy Gupta's brief here as consulting editor Prudent Media (another miner owned entity, the Timblo's in this case. There are several indicators, which show that the outfit is very very very very very pro Digambar at the moment) appears to be modulating media opinion in the present scenario, to suit the mining lobby.
Sujoy has been going about convincing journos that the Goan in question, Sebastian Roderigues is a Naxal. Most importantly he is doing it from the sidelines. And Sujoy does not want to be quoted on this. He is passing around the info, but refuses to lend his name to it.
Probably to ensure that the activist friends which he has cultivated in Goa, thanks to his overt anti-government posturing in the earlier avataar, do not figure him out yet. The monsoon's still here and there's a lot of 'planting' to be done.
There a lot more about this guy and his coverage of the River Princess controvery and some other 'stellar' stories which came out under his regime. But Sujoy is going to be around and so are we...
We'll clear the bull-shit he's scattering around... one lump at a time.

The self proclaimed "Editor" of NDTV's Metro Nation Mumbai is back after Srinivasan Jain saw through his shallow journalism. No wonder, only Goa can afford such worthy adopted sons of the soil. Most importantly, Sujoy comes in when his own old ragtag army of Paul Fernandes, Preetu Nair and Alister Miranda are in Times of India. The picture seems to be complete and with Prudent trying its hand at everything...from soaps and serials to musicals in its 24 hour channel what needs to be seen is where another wannabe juggernaut is going to land.
Naxalism and Sujoy is an old story as he hails from a state that is notorious for it. Pity, how he is going to substantiate it. One distinctly remembers how he went after Dr. Willy in the River Princess Case and then made amends. Then it was the Russian Mafia which seemed to take on his reporter (Alister) but missed him. Wonder who foots his Bills.
But one thing stands very clear. Goa always imports ooops... adopts, sons of the soils to spin yarns which there own don't want to do ;-)
Of the English newspapers that I read today, only the GT had the sense to give the reader a fair idea of what was going on. The others just blindly printed Parrikar's mining lobby fed statements. Given that Seby and his work for those suffering from the depredations of the mine-owners is too well known, the behaviour of all the other papers particularly the TOI and the Herald is disgraceful.[What can one say about that poor chained dog called the NT.]Thank God there is the internet, where these things can come out in the open. What I wonder will Parrikar get for his yeoman or is it yesman service to the mining bhatkars? Anyone like to bet against me bet that there is going to be a shakeup in the sarkar soon?
Sujoy came as a mole on the 5th June Environment Day celebrations of activists at Sulcorna.
Now he has confirmed that he is deep in the dirty hole.
He needs to be told that Goa has changed over the past two years. Goans will bury all moles in the deepest of holes.
Sujoy is a slur on journalism.
What makes you think Sujoy is 'Consulting Editor' of Prudent Media? Is it because he tells you that? You poor suckers, after 'enlightening' the entire Goan journalistic firmament, you too ended up reading '10' on Sujoy's five-rupee note... Sad, sad. You must do your homework better next time, you lazy little pricks!
The fact is that Sujoy is employed as a 'corporate consultant' for Fomento, the mining company owned and operated by Auduth Timblo, who also heads the consortium that runs Prudent. He operates out of an office in Manguirish Building on 18 June Road, not from the Prudent office.
But either he's ashamed of being a PR man for a mining company, or he feels it gains him the 'colleague' tag when he deals with journalists, so he goes around telling everyone that he's 'consulting editor' of Prudent. Next time, check out your facts FIRST. Otherwise, stop passing verdicts on others.
Nothing new really, Sujoy Gupta is a past master of subterfuge and can be credited with prostitutionalising journalism in Goa.
What is however surprising is how Goa has suddenly woken up to Sujoy's antics.
Until now, he was the uannounced darling of the anti-BJP, anti-Parrikar journalist(?) NGO lobby.
Quite surprising now that the same "RED" journalist lobby has turned against him.
And there are other darlings of the RED journalist lobby as well, Ashwin Tombat not to speak of ASMITAI fame SandeshBHAI, both of whom are prancing around like monkeys - the former with Sujoy's articles while the latter with Sujoy's EXPERIENCE(?) at NDTV. Congrats Penpricks, Sujoy the LIAR that he is, was, until now, peddling shit in Goa, telling all and sundry that he was heading the entire Western region at NDTV. And with his GHANTI CHAMCHA' MOG ASUNDI's bete-noire Preetu Nair 'faithfully' spreading HER MASTERS WORD around, Sujoy had a ball during his umpteen visits to Goa.
Anyway, one look at Sujoy's 'Chela' Preetu Nair's journalism and you know the CHARACTER(?) of this wolf-in-sheep's clothing that is Sujoy Gupta. Wake up Goa, and drive this man out of this state before he causes any more damage.
i say---------sameer salgaonkar foots his bills.(and despraphu too?) get that jerk outta here..eeeeeeeeks! i found home he says..he wants to me vomit..

And how about his (S's) affair with a female Reporter which end in a mud-slinging between both of them through SMS messages and finally found an inquiry being conducted by the management and he shunted out to Pune as punishment.
what about S's unpaid bills which he owes to several restaurants in South and North Goa some of the restaurants who inserted advertisements and got their paisa vasul from the Gt management

One of them is an RJ in a private FM Channel. Many others left after Sujoy was pulled up by Sakal and transferred to Pune
A warning perhaps of the impending DISASTER for wannabe female staff desirous of joining Prudent. Do so at our own risk. For more info, contact veteran GT staffers wh have more juicy stuff hidden in their belly!
A little about Sujay Gupta that will not show up on your radar. While Sujay's sins may be fodder for penpricks et al, there's no denying that as an editor, he was unlike any other that Gomantak Times has seen. As far as GT staff was concerned, he didn't hesitate to give credit where it was due, even if that meant rewarding staff which was not 'young blood'.
He laboured as hard as he expected his staff to, and was able to keep them motivated in his own inimitable style. The amount of time he spent in the office metamorphing atrociously written copy into great stories is worth mention. Which editor in Goa has done that day after day? And don't editors regularly hold back stories in their own personal interests? Doesn't that make them as guilty of distorting the truth as Sujay's yarn spinning?
Love him or loathe him, his work remains an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to bear witness.
Will be interesting to watch how SandeshBHAI tackles Sujoy as any of Sujoy's 'MISCHIEF'(As Sujoy often refers to for SEXING UP stories)will definitely reflect on SandeshBHAI.
'Ibtadaye Ishq Hai Rota Hai Kya, Aage Aage Dekho Hota Hai Kya'(Remember your own slogan, Penpricks Dearest??????)
Rajan Narayan, Sujoy Gupta and (Sujoy's disciple) Preetu Nair all have one trait in common. Guess what?
All are non-Goans dreaming to teach a thing or two to Asmitai conscious 'NIZ GOENKARS'. How long can we Goans tolerate their blabber?
MOG ASUNDI, where are you man? Why don't you say something (SERIOUSLY?)
Has pp noticed a news item in todays NT about the HC 'order' on 'vehicles'? Interestingly, both NT and miner Anil Salgaonkar are now going to have their own 24-hr news channels promoting pro-mining politicos bashing 'naxalites' like Seby who was also associated with GOA CAN Roland Martins' GOA DESC organisation in the late 90s.
But why is PP going soft on TOI and GT? Is it coz some of dey work dere? Hmmm....?????
Perhaps GT's Ashley who wAS SUPPOSED TO WRITE a byeline column 4 PP will reply or will this comment be edited, too?
Remember earlier posts, PP whose motto is "Discover the rotund flanks and the shaggy underbelly of the Goan media. And of course, the rare honest rib" with main enemy no 1 ROBIN ABREU out of circulation!!!!!
pp is doing real big favor to TOI & GT! WHY? Derek part of penpricks that why else nothing wrong about GT or TOI only Herald!! Now Herald no more same with Tombat (cat) only staf reporters all there! Hardworking not like NT crooks, ARB & liars RPR! or jokers SJ! ha dare you print this post!
Two things...
(a) Anon No. 6, stop all this Goan-nonGoan S***. You live in a free country. If our fellow Goans in Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore and elsewhere are targetted You would be the last one to identify yourself as a Goan
(b) PP, the silence on ToI and GT is indeed telling. Is it that there reports are flawless or is it that You need dope from us to tell the story. Stories (or facts) like how Sujoy Gupta affords a 8+ Bedroom Heritage Home in Campal Heritage zone. Stories (or facts) like Sandesh Prabhudessai the Osmitai Chap who shared the platform with Goa Bachao Andolan in their landmark rally at Margao when he was with one mine owner (Salgaocars) and now when GBA opposes mining he is with another (Timblo's). Wonder why & how these Guys rise like heroes amongst us acquiring demi-God status. Anon. 6, do You have an answer?
and Yes...
(c) Metro Editor Raju Nayak, the man who "rules ToI" thanks to his proximity to the Publisher Manish whatever. See his bit on Margao yesterday. The Guy is such a self obsessed c*** of misery that he feels the CM is out and he can still be a Candidate from Margao. Hehehehe
Penpricks, heard the latest from TOI?
A prick informs us about Preetu Nair's precarious condition there. It seems she is getting sleepless nights watching her MASTER Sujoy Gupat come under attack on this blog.
The law of Karma is at work for Sujoy who is getting the taste of his own medicine. 'What you do unto others ultimately comes back to you'.
Sujoy Gupta sharam karo
Sharam na ho to dub maro
(Sujoy, commit suicide if you have any sense of shame left in you)
Preetu's english is from Goa university.... History dept. so one can not expect much from the malabari pranks
The Big Fat Goan Story
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Surgery could help too Preetu Nair | TNN
Even walking the dog will help shed those extra kilos
Panaji: "Obese people lead sedentary lives, so each time they move about, they burn more calories than a person of regular weight," says fitness instructor Norbert D'Souza.
With an ISSA (International Sports Sciences Association) certification under his belt, D'Souza says any activity—gardening, walking the dog, taking up a sport —will help an obese person shed those excess kilos. Team this up with a daily workout and you're on your way to a slimmer you, adds the 36-year-old.
The easiest of all regimes is walking. It requires no equipment, save for a decent pair of walking shoes. For an obese person just starting out, the initial walk should be a stroll of about 10-15 minutes. Increase the period and intensity over the days to a brisk walk and a time period of 30-45 minutes.
"The body produces fat burning enzymes only after 12 minutes into a workout. Beyond one hour, no more fat is burnt," explains D'Souza.
To spice up the workout routine, add change. Alternate a day of walking with other exercise regimes such as skipping, cycling (stationary bike), swimming, using a gym.
Even while taking a walk, use 'interval' training, advises D'Souza. This means alternating a slow walk for a few minutes with a burst of speed for a few more minutes, then slowing down again.
Walking: Easiest exercise regime. Start with 10-15 minute stroll, progress, over days, to 30-45 minutes brisk walk Stationary cycle: Softer on the knees. Follow same regime as walking Swimming: Easy on all joints. Excellent for overall weight loss Skipping: Burns major calories and tones up the entire body. Start with five sets of 20 repetitions Moving around: Gardening, walking the dog, washing the car Eat more often, but far less, advise nutritionists
Panaji: Diet is as important as exercise, for one looking to shed weight, says nutritionist Sheryl Afonso. Obese people eat wrong, she adds. By this, it isn't just what is consumed, but how often too. "The best diet is five, small, low-fat, moderate carb meals, eaten at 3-4 hour intervals throughout the day," says the Panaji-based Afonso. Her recommendations:
CHEW ON THIS
Lots of whole fruits (with skin on) Raw salads, leafy veggies Whole grain cereals Pulses Chicken without the skin Fish - baked, steamed or grilled Use non-stick ware for cooking
BIN THIS
Juices Potatoes and tubers Red meat/Processed meats Sweets, deserts, chocolates All fried foods, fast foods Carbonated beverages/alcohol
Panaji: Bariatic surgery, a procedure in which the stomach is shrunk to reduce food intake, is gaining popularity in Goa. In the last six months, seven such operations were carried out at a Margao hospital. Three patients were Goans, the rest foreigners. Michael Fernandes (name changed on request) was the first Goan to go under the bariatic scalpel. "I was 132 kg and could hardly stand. After the surgery, I lost 34 kg and am more active," says the 37-year-old. Adding that he feels "healthier today than I ever did in my teens", the insurance agent says the weight loss helped him "land a job of my choice". There are three types of bariatic surgeries—laparoscopic gastric banding (lap band), gastric bypass and gastric sleeve. These are decided depending on individual problems. "For a morbidly obese person (with a BMI above 40), bariatic surgery (that costs between Rs 2 and Rs 3 lakh) is the only solution, as there is a 50-60% weight loss," says Dr Rajkumar Palaniappan, bariatic surgeon at Apollo Victor hospital. However, the surgery is not without complications. "Nearly 20% develop vitamin B deficiency and have to take vitamin tablets for life. Some also become anaemic, if they are not careful about their diet," he says.
Michael agrees that he has to be careful about his diet and can't smoke or drink. But he is not complaining. "I am happy to be alive and I now feel healthier," says Michael.
What is BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) indicates body fatness. It is calculated by dividing a person's body weight by the square of one's height. For example, if you weigh 52 kilos and your height is 5 ft (1.52 mtrs), your BMI is 23.111 {BMI = weight (kilos)/height (sq m)}.
BMI categories: Below 18.5 - Underweight 18.5 to 24.9 - Normal 25 to 29.9 - Overweight 30 & above - Obese

how about preetu get some medical attention for her extra flap
Hey Penpricks,
Why so quiet for the past one week? What happened? Tired of making up stories about Sujay Gupta? Or maybe u r on monsoon vacation? Becoming very sussegado, eh? Or maybe u have turned potty?
Missing u n ur lies and ur version of Harry Potty!! You really should consider changing ur blog name from Penpricks to PottyPricks!!
I wrote a comment days ago that pointed out your ignorance in the above matter, but I see that you don't like to be exposed.
Looks like that 'honest rib' is rarer than we thought...
Ha ha ha
Sujoy's dirty laundry (whether fact or fiction) being aired on penpricks made interesting reading for me ... at least initially. Now, though, it just makes me wonder.
He travelled extensively across Goa and wrote unceasingly about his 'friends' in Goa. Many from the journalist fraternity proudly declared him publicly as their 'friend'. But where are all these 'friends' now?
Granted non-journos probably don't read this blog, but journos are constantly checking it. Surprising that none of his journo 'friends' have anything nice to say in his favour (in spite of the anonymity option available on this blog).
It just tells u a little bit about our Goan journos, doesn't it? But then again, the recent entry of ToI has shown us that the average Goan journo is like a rat who will abandon a sinking ship. (And yes, I received ToI offers, but turned them down).
Sujoy, was and is a great journalist and so is preetu nair. You call them non goans….being goans what have you guys done…just sucked up to political pressures. I know so many of your guys who have taken money from candidates during election and write good about them…why?
What ever may be the reasoning; this is not the way to treat people. I challenge you guys to think out of the box. Go to places like kerala, TN, Mumbai, B’lore and try to prove yourself. Don’t be a frog in the well my friends.
GT / Herald staffs are more scared what if Sujoy join them as an editor. My friend you cannot stop the hands of faith. I truly believe that Sujoy with no one’s help will make it big in main stream Goan media. And besides Sujoy is too good for your guys, for you guys it’s a question of grapes turned sour. We will wait and see what will happen….And point that I would like to make is you are a blog not to wash people’s private life in the public eye, coz everyone one has skeletons in the cupboard. But channel your efforts to help journalist give correct reports which you are not doing. What you have been doing is just give gossip, so there is no difference between you, Rajan Narayan and Mario Cabral Esa. And if you call yourself an ethical and good journalist think again.
I do hope to see my comment published on your blog…. Coz the last time my comments where not published….don’t be bias…or try to shut your eyes and say its dark….. Be just and seek justice. Bring out not flaws in character, but flaws in writing ability to help yourselves and journalism.
To Anon at 02 July 2008 10:09
Considering the scale of attack on Sujoy and his self-proclaimed disciple Preetu Nair, both need an excellent PR to set things right for themselves in Goa. You perfectly fit the bill boss. Need I say more, you non-Goan a**e li***r
To Anon at 05 July 2008 11:50
If u bunch can do Sujoy's laundry (ie airing his dirty laundry in public), surely a couple of us can do his PR, don't u think!!
;-)
PS: penpricks, hope u will publish this as u didn't publish an earlier comment of mine. Looks like u only publish comments which make Sujoy look bad?
