So is the UPA government, especially the Congress gearing up for mid-term polls. With the action-taken report on the Sachar Panel recommendations being presented in Parliament last week, it is becoming abundantly clear that the Congress is eying on the minority vote bank. The UPA governments strategy is more than clear. During this session of Parliament the Srikrishna Commission report on Mumbai riots is likely to be discussed in Parliament. The Liberhan Commission report on the demolition of Babri mosque now expected in October is another balancing act by the UPA to reach out to the minorities. Yes it appears that the UPA government is all set to flood the minorities with attention – and let us not get fooled by this attention. There is only goal only and that is the next general elections.

UPA readies for polls, takes action on Sachar report
New Delhi: The UPA Government's preparations are going on backstage as the snap polls loom large. The action-taken report on the Sachar Panel recommendations was presented in Parliament clearly with an eye on the minority vote bank.
With the possibility of a mid-term election looming large, the UPA government is unveiling its agenda to counter Left's pro-imperialist allegations. Ten months after it was tabled, ‘action taken’ report on the Sachar Panel recommendations has been presented by the Government.
The minority vote bank is in the line of UPA's political vision.
“There is no politics in all this at all. This is not a preparation’ to the snap polls. Rome certainly was not built in a day,” said Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay.
That’s not all. In the days ahead, even the Srikrishna Commission report on Mumbai riots is likely to be discussed in Parliament.
Liberhan Commission report on the demolition of Babri mosque now expected in October couldn't have been timed better — a balancing act by the UPA to reach out to the minorities.
“Sachar Committee is nothing but minority appeasement. It should be rejected in totality,” said BJP leader Venkaih Naidu.
And it is not just the minorities who will be flooded with attention by a Government preparing to face the electorate. Some more schemes are in the offing in a please-all gesture by a suddenly generous Government. This includes an ambitious insurance coverage plan for the unorganized sector.
Expect some more aam admi schemes and programmes in the days ahead, for the UPA and the Left both know that it’s an fragile truce before the battlelines are finally drawn for the next general elections.
