GAME, SET, CATCH

These happy gentlemen are a part of the Goa Sports Journalists Association. The GSJA like most of our sports associations appear as top heavy as Mallika Sherawat. Now look at this photograph and the story which accompanies it. The story obviously a press note lists out who all are a part of this organisation.
Here’s how we see it. For a flock of five members, you have a managing committee of seven office bearers and three grey haired advisors.

Just for the heck of it, we’ll try and give you a descriptive paragraph each on some of the guys posing in this picture. We are doing it for the pure fun of it, guys don’t read motives here please.
Starting from bottom left:
Dinesh Sakhalkar: Dinesh is one of the many happy-go-lucky jacks in our media circuit. Oh and does he love to talk… provided he doesn’t have gutka stuffed in his mouth. His smile is a photographer’s delight… Too bad he is a photographer himself.
Sharadchandra Naik: (third from left bottom row) The only way you can visualise Sharad in a sports related affair is with a cricket bat in one hand and a crutch in the other. Poor chap gasps while walking a few metres with his boss Balamuralikrishna, but he is always at the forefront of every GSJA meet.
Kishor Petkar: (fifth from left bottom row) The most excitable thing that happened to Petkar bab over the last few years was the loss of his moustache. Started with the Goa Times before switching to Gomantak, where he is supposed to have lost his mooch and got his belly.
Sandeep Redkar: (fecond from left top row) Tarun Bharat’s Sandeep Redkar… Dayanand Narvekar’s man in the fraternity. Was in the eye of controversy following the fake ticket scandal. A lot of feathers were ruffled in the Tarun Bharat, when a peon was fired for selling fake tickets, while top journos in the sports section who had also sold fake tickets were not punished. Sandeep by the way also works as a clerk in a government aided school. Looks like juggling, is one game Sandeep will be pretty good at.
Francis Ribiero: (third from left, top row) Francis or Choppy has stepped out into the world in several avatars. The one you see in this photograph is the fattened pigeon incarnation. Choppy is the chief sports editor at the Herald. (Someone know how he got this nickname? Please write to us…) Folks at office often say that Choppy is a real hard worker… provided he comes to office.
Nandesh Kambli: (fifth from left, top row) Nandesh Kambli is in one hell of a organisation starting spree. He is one of the founding forces of the recently started Goa Press Photographers Association. Did you guys know he is related to former Goa Ranji player Narayan Kambli. More on Nandesh… hmm he appears to be a good photographer with an urge to think out of the box… the only problem being he is boxed in hard between two of the most dumb-ass senior sub editors in the history of Goan vernacular media Suhas Belekar and Sudesh Arlekar.
Suraj Nandrekar: (seventh from the left, top row) Formerly with us, Suraj has now joined the Gomantak Times. He was so disillusioned with the Herald and Choppy’s tantrums that he even took some time off to start a chicken business. He sure had an easy choice. Chopp’y’ing chicken is sure better than Choppy nagging you.

One or more guys in the photo appear to be on the borderline of ill health.

Guys, if you happen to read this please, please go for a blood test. Don't forget to do an after fast (post prandial) test and a Lipid profiling for cholesterol too. There is no cure for diabetes. Once you get it, it's for life.

Private companies such as Lintas now have aerobics facilities.

Remember, a healthy mind does much better in a healthy body.

For the chap that has a great smile; it will go in a hurry if you attract oral cancer. Fling that gutka!!

Don't fall in the hands of some of the greedy scoundrels that parade as docs. (Would have given more dope on docs, but then it would be beyond the scope of the blog!)

The pic appears to have 3 rows.
The middle row has the guy sporting a french beard and a spectacled guy clad in white.

I'm trying to spot Suraj Nandrekar: (seventh from the left, top row).

If I take 2 rows then he is the one in specs. Take 3 and he is the guy behind french beard.

Will someone pl. point me to him....Just curious

Hi chum... ok lets try and help you out. You see that plumpish looking guy wearing spectacles and a white (sort of) coloured shirt... the guy standing right next to that oldish guy wearing a french beard...
Guess was a bit sleepy yesterday... The 'frenchie' guy's Satish Naik, who works for the All India Radio. No no he hasn't retired yet. But he's preparing to... See he's already the most preferred 'vote of thanks' delivery person at the GSJA...

The most interesting picture is that of Francis Ribeiro... Opps. Choppy.

Looks like he is comparing himself with Diego Maradona....not for his on field football magic... but for his off the field activities...

You guys know what I am talking about... liquid fluid.... the Goan way

Herald August 12(sunday) sports last page screams "Missery". I think the sports editor needs a lesson in English.

Hi, this is Anon 11. Really don't know why this picture is my favourite.

Perhaps because, in my mind, it is a snapshot of society... you have the sad, the happy, those faking happiness, the pompus, the bold, the beautiful, the not so beautiful, the cross ones, the cons, the rich, the healthy, the unhealthy, the sly,...

Haven't really been able to quite put my finger on the reason.

But then I guess, its like art,... ordinary to some, priceless to others.
