GOING PHOTOSHOP'PING'

Hey guys, have to tell you this.
We’ve received some scanned images from anonymous reader… We are indebted to him/her. We already reproduced one yesterday, the sports journo association pic. The only scanner we have access to is in our respective offices and its tough trying to sneak in there and scan a pic to be uploaded on Penpricks.
If any of you guys do have a scanner at your disposal and some time on hand too, would be great if you could scan any interesting item and mail it back to us. Would make good reading, if the scans are relevant and the point you are trying to make interesting.
Here’s one more…
This is a photograph by Sushant Naik, which appeared in Goa Doot. Its meant to have that wow effect... you know... see how intelligently I've grabbed the reflection of the guy climbing up the flag post in the rear view mirror of a two-wheeler parked near the old secretariat.
But looks like Sushant has come of age. Rather has come to terms with technology. Did someone see him buying a pirated Adobe Photoshop CD?
Something is wrong with this picture isn’t it? Can you guys spot it?
Maybe… if a good photographer looks up this blog, he’d be able to explain what exactly is fishy here. One question confronts us. If Sushant had focussed at the object nearer to him, like say… the reflected image of the guy climbing the ladder, then how is the rim of the rear view mirror blurred? And if Sushant has focussed on the Mandovi bridge far behind him, then how come the reflection (of the ladder) in the mirror’s sharp too?
Penpricks suspects that this is a computer-juggled image passed off as a photograph. Could someone ask Sushant this please? Better still tell his dad hehe…
Remember that picture Arvind Tengse clicked once... at the height of uproar following the match-fixing controversy... Tengse who used to work out of Margao sent a photograph showing Dayanand Narvekar behind bars, when he wasn't arrested at all. There was mere speculation that Dayanand Narvekar would be arrested sometime in the night, but the arrest didn't happen. But Tengse PHOTOSHOPPED a masterpiece that night.

I am not a photographer. But, I used to experiment with an old telescope.(The type that's approx. 1 foot long)
Now, when I did focus on a distant object, the nearer ones would blur.

Taking this principle to a camera I figure that the photographer got a great shot. The distance from the camerea via the mirror to the pole is approximately the same as that from the camera to the bridge.

The rim of the mirror probably blurs due to the close proximity.

But if you give the original pic in the digital format an expert will give you his analysis accurately.

hey penpricks,
the photo is genuine. you can try clicking a similar photo with a SLR camera and the results will be the same. (rim is blurred because of the focal length of the flag pole which is much furher away)

Looks like the Mandovi bridge background which should have been in the mirror itself, sneaked out of the mirror. A mirrorculous, sorry miraculous photograph.

This is my take on the pic..

1. The bike is parked somewhere close to the old Secretariat on the Patto side.

2. Bike is facing the river.

3. It's front wheel is towards the right. (Fork locked on right side)

4. This causes the right handle grip to be at a lower position in respect to the left one.

5. The mirror angles; making the flag pole visible.

6. The black arch part of the mirror i.e. from the footpath barrier to the bridge is also thicker cause of the mirror's tilted angle. (There is about a 3 mm depth from rim surface and the mirror laid in... causing this arch to be more prominent due to the angle.) Are u still with me? Try this out ... lean to the right.. now look at your computer monitor on the left. The gap between the monitor's glass and the left plastic edge appear to be thicker than the right side...(BTW u can sit properly now.. Hehehe)

Read this along with anon1 and anon2.

Penpricks I think you got this post all wrong!!!

The link below will clarify this for you.

http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1428016608034308679EomdCY

Now... once the page opens click on the magnifying lens icon ...(that tiny lil' one with the plus sign)

Hover your mouse to the bottom right of the pic...till an orange cloured icon with outward pointing arrows appears. Click it to expand the pic.

Take some time to look at the blur of the mirror. You will find that it is not the same for every part of the mirror.

Assume that the trees in the mirror are 'Flag Poles'. Very clear aren't they!!!

You will also see that the side rear profile of the car is blurred.

If you are convinced, then please repost to enable the readers to see things from a diffrent 'focal' view point.
