IT AINT YOURS, ITS 'MINE'
Had any of you been a loyal Navhind Times reader, you never really have missed out on any of these significant events. Like for example Srinivas Dempo speaking at a public function. Or Pallavi Dempo dressed in the snazziest of shiny pants giving away awards of excellence. Or even a baby Dempo beaming at you after winning a consolation third prize. If TNT editor Arun Sinha babu wants to please his boss, in the near future you could even see a record breaking peeing attempt by Baba Dempo, standing high stop on one of his mining pits aiming at one of the village dwellings.
You'd probably even never miss out on the 18th sapling that Srnivas Dempo planted (of course they'd never mention the 18 mountains pulverised, but anyway) in a tree plantation drive with Srinivas wearing his philantropy pants. But if you carefully go through last weeks issues of The Navhind Times what you probably will not have seen is mention of the agitation started by the villagers of Nhaveli (Bicholim) against mining operators. Owned by mine owners themselves the Navhind Times has a history killing any stories that goes aganist the interest of any mine-owner. Forget this... When Pissurlem village was washed away by floods some years back after water logged in mining pits gushed down in torrents, TNT ignored the news on the day it happened and only carried the story as a face saving device some time later. Its to the good fortune of the readers that Gomantak and Gomantak times have now been weaned away from the Chowgule's (another mining biggie). Or else the mining lobby had been so successful in squelching public interest stories such as these from print.

Planting saplings is fruitless, if they aren't nurtured to maturity.
No provisions exist, to rehabilitate or relocate displaced amphibians, reptiles and bird species forced to perish due to habitat destruction.
Even if tree plantation is a success, it's lifeless without animal life.
CNN-IBN did a story of how mining in distant Bellary and at other places has a direct impact on the politics of Bangaluru. Their sources claim that, only a small area is shown as being mined, while the balance area is mined by paying the concerned, huge bribes to turn a blind eye.
The same probably happens in Goa. Joseph Goebbels' theories, still have takers in the media!
yawn!!! Penpricks you've gotta do better than that!
You guys are really good !!!!
Baba and his cronies have already screwed up the environmental balance in rural Goa.However, this story looks incomplete .... I mean do you guys have a detailed report.
HEY ALSO CHECK THE PATHETIC CONDITION OF DEMPO COLLEGE ALTINHO(NO I AM NOT REFERRING TO VAMAN NAIK ..NO DOUBT HE HAS MADE IT WORSE WITH HIS MISADVENTURES) ESPECIALLY IN THE LIGHT OF "UPAHAAR" CASE. SOME 800 INNOCENT STUDENTS PLUS 30 STAFF MEMBERS ARE INVOLVED IN THE "LEARNING" PROCESS. THE BUILDING IS HIGH RISK ZONE (WOODEN STRUCTURES ) WITH NO FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT AND ON THE VERGE TO COLLAPSE. NO EMERGENCY EXITS AT ALL. (STUDENTS WRITE THEIR EXAMS IN CANDLE LIGHT ...HOW VERY UNROMANTIC). AT PRESENT THIS STRUCTURE,CLUBBED WITH UNPROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT AND VERY INSENSITIVE APPROACH BY "PHILANTHROPIST" BABA AND HIS DOLL PALLAVI IS A PERFECT RECIPE FOR DISASTER. HOPE YOU GUYS CAN FIND MORE DETAILS ON THIS ISSUE.
Hey anon..."STUDENTS WRITE THEIR EXAMS IN CANDLE LIGHT"
Please explain... Which exams are conducted at night?
Do the examination halls have no windows?
Students have no option (especially during power failures in April-May, which is peak exam time) but to use candles and small torches as the institution lacks basic infrastructure. Besides, 40% of the classrooms have no windows and hence no scope for natural sunlight. Lack of windows has lead to poor ventilation and with 80+ students crammed in classrooms (with max capacity of 50)is adversely affecting their health. There have been cases where students have fainted due to suffocation during routine classes (can verify and confirm with the staff and students). It is not only during the exams but also for routine lectures that teachers and students have to continue survival in the most miserable and adverse conditions. There is not a single source of clean drinking water (can verify - one can walk into Dempo College any time and confirm all these facts). Besides, the windows and exits on the first floor have been sealed with iron rods making it impossible for any one to escape in case of emergencies like fire. With large student population studying in such dangerous premises it is definitely a matter of serious concern.
KINDLY VISIT THE CAMPUS ANYTIME DURING COLLEGE HOURS AND ASK THE STAFF OR STUDENTS TO SHOW YOU WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE POWER IS OFF.YOU WILL HAVE AN EXPRIENCE OF A LIFETIME - AND WILL WONDER IF YOU ARE STANDING IN GOA'S "OLDEST" COMMERCE COLLEGE RUN BY "PHILANTHROPISTS" THE HOUSE OF DEMPOS. ALSO CHECKOUT THE VENTILATION (ESP ROOM 4,5, 9, 10, 11) AND DONT MISS THE LIBRARY. CHECK OUT THE LIBRARY SPACE AND LAYOUT FOR 800 STUDENTS.
KINDLY DO WRITE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE AND LET ME KNOW YOUR RESPONSE.
